87 USD UPMC Hamot is hiring a Patient Care Technician to support the Mother Baby unit in the Women’s Hospital! This position is Full-Time, with rotating day and night shifts.
Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Responsibilities: The Patient Care Technician performs a variety of essential duties to ensure high-quality patient care and efficient hospital operations: Provides patient care, including assisting with procedures and activities of daily living, and supports physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
Assists with UPMC nursing core responsibilities such as blood glucose monitoring, vital signs assessment, specimen collections, and Foley care, as well as at least four of the specified BU identified tasks.
Reports changes in patient status and provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care.
Ensures equipment malfunctions are reported, maintains communication with other departments, and fosters professional interpersonal relationships.
Participates in universal unit activities, responds to call lights and telephones, passes meal trays, and transports patients.
Actively seeks feedback, identifies learning needs, and takes action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance.
Provides instruction to patients and families under RN direction, and may apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints as per protocol.
Demonstrates effective communication with the healthcare team, understanding of cultural diversity, and commitment to workplace safety.
Supports departmental changes, assumes responsibility for assignments, and contributes to department-based projects and quality initiatives.
Strictly adheres to all policies and procedures related to patient care, hospital information, and safety protocols.
Documents accurately in the medical record and completes department clerical tasks promptly.
Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors and undertakes other assigned duties.
Achieves and maintains competency in advanced skills based on departmental needs, such as phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, EKG procedures, and NG tube management.
Qualifications: Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent.
Must also have either a) 1 Year of general healthcare experience, b) 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion, c) enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, d) completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
Successful completion of basic information system training.
Microcomputer experience preferred.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
ACLS preferred.
